Climate Crises
Congratulation for winning the golden statue.
I have been working around the globe (incl. USA) and I have seen enough pollution.
Huge flares from petrochemical plants in the Middle East, which are burning for days, yellow-bright, that you can read a book even at night.
Polluted rivers in Bangladesh, Pakistan, India and burning forest in Borneo etc.
These entire things we could see in the film.
But it seems that talking about “Global Warming” is TRENDY now.
It’s my “pleasure” to breathe every day the polluted air in Hong Kong (I live here permanently), coming from China blowing by northern wind.
In Germany (I’m German); it took us a long time to build up awareness for our environment.
But now, we have intelligent traffic guide systems, you get tax return when installing solar panels on private houses, etc., etc.
But so far, I cannot see any serious countermeasures to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases, especially in Asia and US.
Consider that everybody can do little things and everything starts with education.
Why not turn-off the light in the office, when going out for lunch. Why not adjust the aircon- temperature or turn it off, instead wear a jacked?
It may sounds a little bit funny but these entire small things are helping, supporting to save energy consumption and hence emission of green house gases.
Companies are making Mio’s of Dollars net-profit. Of course, the politic should not interfering in markets or the free-market-economy too much but I guess, it is time to force companies and force them much stronger now, to invest more in new technologies in order to achieve a marked reduction of green house gases emission.
If Mr. Gore runs for 2008 (I hope so) – he will be measured up with his own film.

We are all proud of Al Gore's bringing global focus to this issue. While certainly the world will need major technological change to continue developing and stop destroying itself, you are quite correct that we can all do some of those small things now, and it can help. Not just the actual savings in energy, but the changing of our collective awareness. When you think "green" on all the little things in your daily life, then you influence others to do the same, and eventually that attitude works its way up.
We must strive, though, to make that global mindshift happen as quickly as possible, because the big changes are essential in addition to the small individual changes. Thank you for your global perspective. You must have a lot of frequent flyer miles!
