all sorts of things. Ever hear of the Flat Earth Society? How about those who insist the moon landings were a scam?

Honest debate over specific details - how to interpret a trend, what is the proper extrapolation, is one thing. Broadly labelling something that a preponderance of evidence supports as a "swindle" is not scientific inquiry. It is political demagoguery, using sound bites to "support" its overall premise.

Al Gore does not have a "theory" as you suggest. Al Gore has compiled and reported on the consensus views of many, many scientists. He draws conclusions as to what responses are warranted. If someone were to do the kind of detailed homework he has done, and were then able to lay out a defensible case for saying "oh, let's just ignore it" then they might deserve a hearing. That has not happened. Every one of the "debunkers" just picks out an obscure scientist here or there, or a specific point that may indeed be subject to differing interpretation, and then levels a broadside at the entire issue. It is the identical tactic taken by the creationists. They believe they "disprove" the broad concept of evolution by finding some detail here or there that may seem inconsistent and say that therefore their seven-days pap is proven. Despite what they may be able to find to chip away at some aspect of the broad picture of evolution, they can offer NOTHING by way of proof for their position. The same is true for the climate crisis naysayers.

The ice IS melting. Nobody can deny that. The atmospheric content HAS changed drastically in the past hundred years. Nobody can deny that. Reasonable people then say, "gee, let's look into this and see what gives." Unreasonable people just whistle past the graveyard and say "I like things the way they are so don't bother me."
