One of the reasons why this is hard to see is because these global terrorists are committing such unspeakable acts that we have trouble even imagining that any other human would do such horrible things. Our lack of imagination works to the terrorist’s advantage, as what they are doing is so off the charts of normal human behavior that it is incomprehensible to us, which is the very blind spot that allows them to get away with it.
This is why the great doctor of the soul C. G. Jung counseled us to consciously develop an “imagination for evil”. Instead of an overly one-sided identification with the light side of the personality, developing an imagination for evil is a way to inwardly realize, through the use of our creative imagination, our own, and by extension, others, potential for evil. As Jung points out, lacking an imagination for evil “deprives us of the capacity to deal with evil.” Once we wrap our imagination around the utter evil that is being perpetrated in our world, we are much more effectively empowered to deal with it.
We hadn’t seen the depth of the evil being acted out before because it was so overwhelmingly transparent, (i.e., not hidden) that we didn’t see it, as if it was staring us in the face and we were looking away. Our turning away in denial was a reflection of our avoiding relationship with a darker, previously unimagined aspect of ourselves.
Once we see clearly, it could not be more obvious that 9/11, one of the worst war-crimes in all of history, was an “opportunity” which was only able to be successfully pulled off, covered up and capitalized on by the same financial-military-industrial crime syndicate which has taken over our government and is trying to extend its tentacles to the furthest reaches of the planet. If you think that I am exaggerating or being paranoid when I point this out, I would respond by inviting you to open your eyes, explore the evidence – which is right in front of your eyes – and look at what is actually being done in your name (see 911truth.org). U.S. political and military documents openly proclaim that the establishment of an empire that includes the whole world - a fascist global Pax Americana - is their goal.
It is as if virulent parasites have insinuated themselves into the body politic of our nation and are consuming it from within. Speaking from a spiritual point of view, eminent theologian David Ray Griffin says, “…demonic power is now firmly lodged in the United States, especially in its government, its corporate heads, the ‘defense’ industries, its plutocratic [wealthy] class more generally, and its ideologues.” These psychopaths who have taken control of our government are the worst terrorists imaginable; they are truly our worst nightmare materializing into physical form!
It is truly mind-blowing, in that it literally blows the “blind”-ers off of our minds when we realize the extremity of the madness and criminality that the latest incarnation, the George W. Bush regime, in the supposed name of freedom and democracy, has been able to implement, or more accurately, perpetrate in our name (please see my book “The Madness of George W. Bush: A Reflection of our Collective Psychosis”, available on my website www.awakeninthedream.com). To the extent that we believe ourselves to be disempowered and remain silent, we have allowed this evil to be done both in our name and to us, which is to say we are complicit in our own enslavement. It is far more than allowing our pockets to be picked. It is like enabling someone who is stealing our national soul. Just like in a dysfunctional home suffering from abuse, the violence in the family system (in this case, our nation) is only possible if the rest of the family members (US) tacitly agree to keep silent and stay passive, which is to say we are all thereby complicit in allowing the abuse to happen.
The forces that have taken over our country are actually global terrorists who rule by creating terror, intimidating and subjugating people through fear, all under the guise of their (mafia-like) “protection” being for our own good. The pirates who have taken over our government are not interested in governing, but are only interested in feeding their unquenchable addiction for power, control and booty. These criminally and morally insane people are literally trying to centralize power and control on our planet so as to exert full-spectrum dominance. Psychologically speaking, they are embodying the negative, testosterone-driven patriarchal ego amplified to a pathological extreme, as they literally try to attain omnipotence as a compensation for their own inner fear, weakness and insecurity. Malignant narcissists on steroids, these criminals are trying to create a New World Order and literally take over the planet as a perverse way of avoiding having to consciously deal with their own unconscious inadequacies.
What is happening is hard to see because it is so overwhelming that it literally gives us a “shock” of realizing the “awe”-full ness of the darker side of humanity, which is to say, of what any of us are potentially capable. It’s so sci-fi that it’s hard to believe it’s really happening. It feels like being in some sort of hyper-dimensional, Star Wars-type movie which has the extra mind-blowing feature that we ourselves are in the very movie that we are watching. It truly has the feel of an invasion from a parallel universe.
To think that the notion that terrorists – literally planetary pirates (see my article “Bush: Planetary Pirate”, available on my website www.awakeninthedream.com) - are trying to take over our planet is a paranoid conspiracy theory is to be truly ignorant (which means to “not know”) of what is actually happening, and to be in denial with a capitol “D” with regards to reality. I don’t mean to be impolite when I say this, it’s just that there’s no time to waste in beating around the bush. To think that this is a crazy conspiracy theory is analogous to being sound asleep while our house is being ransacked. We mustn’t be complacent, we can’t just naively depend upon some off-planet deity for our salvation, as we ourselves are responsible for how things turn out. Which is to say that we must find the divine power within ourselves to effectively and creatively respond to our predicament.
The terrorists we are fighting are not external terrorists, but domestic terrorists who have taken over our government, the very institution which is supposedly protecting us from terrorists. The barbarians have truly stormed the gates and occupy the seats of power. The underlying military-industrial-financial crime syndicate that controls our government is a true terrorist organization.which rules through the creation of terror. The “global war on terrorism” is not a war “on” terrorism, it is a war “of” terrorism. It is truly shattering, inducing a form of post-traumatic-stress disorder, to realize that those who are supposedly protecting us are the ones from whom we need protection. And yet, it is a form of trauma that can potentially so “shake us up” that it can snap us out of our fear-based, frozen paralysis and can trigger mobilization, inspiring us into empowered action. Paradoxically, the trauma itself activates a response in us which is both utterly traumatic while simultaneously being able to bring about its own creative resolution. How the trauma manifests depends on us: whether it deepens our pathological denial, or awakens us to a deeper, more expansive level of our creative being, depends upon what we do with it.
Symbolically, it is significant when the darker forces incarnate as an intimate member of our own family system (in this case, our nation). Seen as a dreaming process – an inner process materializing itself both literally and symbolically through events in the outer world – the fact that the enemy we are fighting is not outside of us but within our very homeland symbolizes that these darker forces are not separate from ourselves. For example, Judas incarnating as one of Christ’s intimate disciples is symbolically expressing this same deeper, archetypal truth: our true enemy is not a distant enemy, but an intimate enemy. Seen symbolically, what this means is that the seemingly outer enemy is actually an embodied reflection of the adversary within ourselves.
This mythic process of overcoming the intimate enemy within has played itself out from time immemorial, or more accurately, since the birth of “civilization”, both inwardly in our psyche and outwardly in the projected (i.e., “dreamed up”) form of world events. This underlying mythic drama has reiteratively unfolded itself, fractal-like, all throughout history in multiple dimensions simultaneously – intrapersonally (individually), interpersonally (in relationship), and transpersonally (collectively). All of these different levels are mirrored reflections of each other, as well as of a deeper, archetypal process which is currently making itself known to us as it appears in externalized, projected form by incarnating in, as and through events on the world stage. As Jung continually pointed out, the unconscious always gets projected out and approaches us from seemingly outside of ourselves, where it both literally and symbolically gets dreamed up into materialization.
What is happening in our country and our world is synchronistically revealing to us a process that is going on deep inside all of us. What is playing out in the world theater is a cosmic drama that exists deep within the collective psyche of humanity. Darker forces trying to “take over” and possess someone (be it an individual, a home, a nation, or a planet) is a mythic, eternal and recurring drama that exists deep inside the collective unconscious and has played itself out in this world in nearly infinite variations. Only in this moment in time, however, do these darker forces have it within their grasp to potentially accomplish their evil intentions on a grand scale that was previously unimaginable. The only thing that can get in their way is if enough of us wake up and see what they are doing – which is to say, if enough consciousness is added to the mix. Just like a vampire can’t stand the light, these darker forces cannot stand the light of consciousness. “The global war on terror” is a war on consciousness. Because it can potentially expand our consciousness, the war on consciousness is itself the very catalyst and instrument for consciousness to awaken to itself (see my article “The War on Consciousness”, available on my website www.awakeninthedream.com).
Something is being made available to us because of the extremity of our situation: this deeper, mythic process that is playing itself out on the world stage is revealing something to us that is most important for us to know. To recognize what is being revealed is itself the necessary expansion of consciousness which initiates the re-solution of our world crisis. For when enough of us recognize what is being revealed, we can connect with each other through the open heart of lucid awareness and literally change the world for the better.

Thanks for this post, I will look into the italics when i have more time. It was every thought I have had since 9-11 when I prayed for wisdom for my government leaders. I knew it was a moment in time when profound events would occur. I prayed for love and compassion to surpass the hatred and urge for retaliation. I have felt abused by GWBush since that time. In an almost surreal way I feel like my arms and legs are trying to move but can't, you know, like a dream when you're trying to run but can't get away. And now that same restrained momentum is effecting our Congress. We need to keep our minds strong and determined and rally together and support those govenment officials who are willing to stand up to the wicked stepfather as he tries to bully us into submission. We need to speak the truth and challenge our sense of helplessness. My need to feel connected to like minds is largely what brought me to this site. I believe that Al Gore is the source for transformation, he is awake and he is trying to awaken the rest of us. Peace!

Forget Osama and the bin Laden family friends of the Bushes. The real names of the terrorists are George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, and company, plus a complicit Congress that, thus far, refuses to use its constitutional powers to impeach and remove these criminals.
Yet, it's "al Qaeda," "al Qaeda," "al Qaeda," according to the corporate media parrots who spew it 24/7. Fox News commentator Sean Hannity offered a taste of how the new bin Laden tape will be used against both Democrats and the American Left.
“One of the things that also struck me is the language specifically that he [bin Laden] used,” Hannity said. “He seemed to adopt the very same language that is being used by the hard Left in this country, as he describes what’s going on in Iraq as a ‘civil war’; he actually used the word ‘neocons’; he talked about global warming; he denounces capitalism and corporations.”

It's really hard to bellieve that we are paying so many screwed up people to be in charge of our country, our economy, our military and day to day lives. Wow, was I ever mislead as a child. All those years of well, brainwashing!. I was young and impressionable when JFK was killed. It instilled in me a high respect for our President and our country. Little did I know. We need to stand firm in our convictions and not allow the multitude of misinformation to disuade us. Keep up the informative posts. The truth will set us free.

One after another, the letter writers declare that Libby's "character" is "inconsistent" with the jury's verdict. These same words -- "character" and "inconsistent" -- appear dozens of times.
"The Scooter Libby I have known for a number of years now is someone about whom such crimes as perjury and obstruction of justice seem as improbable to me as life on Mars," wrote Midge Decter, the neoconservative writer. Her husband, Norman Podhoretz, the neoconservative editor emeritus of Commentary magazine, wrote: "Like everyone else who knows him, I find it inconceivable that a man of his sterling character, who is also famous for his lawyerly scrupulousness, could deliberately have told lies to a grand jury, or for that matter to anyone else." (Decter and Podhoretz's son-in-law, Elliott Abrams, convicted of lying to Congress in the Iran-Contra scandal and subsequently pardoned, is a deputy national security advisor.)
Unmoved by these letters, Judge Reggie Walton imposed a sentence of two and a half years and a $250,000 fine, and told Libby, "Your lies blocked an extremely serious investigation, and as a result you will indeed go to prison." Almost immediately, Cheney praised Libby's "personal integrity," and added his wish that the sentence will be overturned on appeal: "Speaking as friends, we hope that our system will return a final result consistent with what we know of this fine man." Thus, Cheney encouraged his former chief of staff to maintain his steadfast refusal to implicate his former boss in the crimes Libby felt compelled to cover up with his lies to the grand jury.
To be sure, others convicted of crimes often submit similar testimonials before sentencing. But most of those who throw themselves on the mercy of the court express sorrow at what they have done. Libby, however, refused to show remorse. He offered no contrition, only an exercise in victimhood. Like the child who has killed his parents and demands mercy for being an orphan, Libby tried to murder the truth and then got dozens of people to plead for leniency based on his good character.
The act of procuring these letters is further evidence of Libby's stove-piping of disinformation. Libby could not reasonably have expected to sway the judge, but there is a higher authority to which he is appealing. These letters constitute the beginnings of the Libby Lobby's pardon campaign.
Ironically, the longest, most detailed and among the most personal letters supporting Libby is also the most damaging. In "Re: Character Reference for I. Lewis Libby," Paul Wolfowitz writes, "I am currently serving, until June 30 of this year, as President of the World Bank." Either obtusely or obliquely, Wolfowitz's opening line emphasizes the symbiotic nature of their careers, both men having fallen from grace within weeks of each other after years of collaboration. "It is painful for me to reflect on the fact that his life would have been very different if we had never met. He would almost certainly now be a successful attorney in Philadelphia." Wolfowitz describes their 35-year association, going back to when he was an assistant professor at Yale and Libby was his assistant, and how he recruited Libby to serve as his assistant in the State Department and then in the Defense Department. According to Wolfowitz's account, Libby was an indispensable man in ending the Cold War, winning the Gulf War and waging the "global war on terror." But he was also, Wolfowitz writes, of "service to individuals."
The leading example he offers is a stunning revelation, which does not reflect on Libby's charity, compassion and sympathy as Wolfowitz might imagine. The story about Libby "involves his effort to persuade a newspaper not to publish information that would have endangered the life of a covert CIA agent working overseas. Late into the evening, long after most others had left the matter to be dealt with the next day, Mr. Libby worked to collect the information that was needed to persuade the editor not to run the story."
Unintentionally and foolishly, Wolfowitz has hanged the guilty man again. Wolfowitz's defense of Libby is composed with the same care and skill that Wolfowitz brought to the invasion and occupation of Iraq, creating the opposite effects of what he desired. In this bizarre disclosure, rather than exculpating Libby, Wolfowitz incriminates him; for this story is damning evidence of Libby's state of mind -- that he knew he was engaged in wrongdoing in leaking the identity of a CIA covert operative, Valerie Plame Wilson, to two reporters, Judith Miller of the New York Times and Matt Cooper of Time magazine, and in vouchsafing it to White House press secretary Ari Fleischer for the purpose of his leaking it to the press, which he promptly did.
In their filings and sentence pleading, Libby's lawyers argued repeatedly that he did not know that Plame was covert, that he did not "knowingly disclose classified material," and, as his lead attorney, Ted Wells, told the jury in his closing statement, that Libby acted in "good faith," always believing that he was operating within the law. On Oct. 30, 2006, his lawyers filed a claim denying that "any damage to the national security, the CIA, or Ms. Wilson herself was, or could have been, caused by the disclosure of that status."
Once again, Wolfowitz has blundered. Just as he has undone himself at the World Bank, this time he has inadvertently exposed Libby's "good faith" for bad faith. Indeed, the Wolfowitz letter shows that Libby knew the consequences of revealing the "status" of a CIA operative. As evidence introduced in the CIA leak case proved, Cheney had confided the secret to him and ordered him to spread it. But Libby has never mentioned the previous incident of apparently trying to protect a covert CIA operative. If Wolfowitz remembers the story, and it's credible, so Libby must recall it too. Therefore, he must also have known that his defense was based on false premises contrary to what he understood to be right and how he had acted in the past. He sent his attorneys to court to make a case he consciously knew was wrong from his own prior experience of having protected a national security asset from exposure. One can only wonder if Libby ever told his lawyers the story that Wolfowitz has recounted or whether he misled them, too.
The sentencing letters in support of Libby are a treasure trove of ironies and hypocrisies, pointing to the past actions of the epistolary authors or Libby. Seeking to arouse sympathy for his former disciple, Wolfowitz writes, "Harriet and Scooter Libby are both deeply loving parents and the suffering of their children has been a torture for them both." The word "torture" is an especially artless choice. Libby, in fact, was instrumental in Bush's torture policy, even browbeating and isolating administration officials who raised questions about it, as one of them who was subject to Libby's scorn told me.
Yet Douglas Feith, a former undersecretary of defense, wrote in a letter, "Scooter showed an admirable concern for preserving civil liberties." In the Pentagon, Feith oversaw the Office of Special Plans, constructed as a parallel intelligence operation apart from the regular channels to give a stamp of approval to what turned out uniformly to be disinformation about Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction and supposed links to terrorism. These falsehoods, collected almost exclusively from the neoconservatives' favorite Iraqi exile, Ahmed Chalabi, were siphoned from the OSP to the OVP (Office of the Vice President), where Libby was in charge of packaging them. Libby and Cheney appeared at CIA headquarters numerous times, occasions on which Libby forced analysts to respond to his relentless interrogatories in order to get them to give their stamp of authority that the information was true. Within the CIA, the analysts even began to prepare for these visits with "murder boards," according to former CIA director George Tenet's memoir, "At the Center of the Storm." He quotes a senior analyst: "Were they trying to push us and drive us? Absolutely." Secretary of State Colin Powell rejected "one of Libby's lengthy briefs out of hand as a basis for his Feb. 5, 2003, speech before the United Nations Security Council on Saddam's WMD and al-Qaida connections, but nonetheless still delivered a speech replete with disinformation. (Powell and Tenet were not among those who wrote letters on Libby's behalf.)
Another letter writer, John Bolton, defended Libby's perjury merely as a lapse of "perfect recall." He also offered opinions on the handling of intelligence. "With classified information, it was frequently hard to know who was cleared to see what or what could be discussed with whom. If there is anyone who fully understands our 'system' for protecting classified information, I have yet to meet him." Bolton, the former U.N. ambassador and undersecretary of state for arms control, was Cheney and Libby's ally within the State Department, blocking and spying on Powell. Bolton gamed the "system" to keep information from Powell, sought to intimidate State Department Intelligence and Research Bureau analysts into accepting his skewed views, and tried to reassign them when they did not bend. Libby, for his part, was also crucial in blackballing Foreign Service officers, experienced in nation building, who were involved in Powell's elaborate "Future of Iraq" project.
Kenneth Adelman, a neoconservative former member of the Pentagon's Defense Policy Board, who had declared that the war in Iraq would be a "cakewalk," wrote a letter for Libby, too. "Your Honor," he wrote, "this is punishment enough. Hence I ask that this decent man not be subjected to time in jail, and allowed to cope with his conviction as best as anyone could in these circumstances. After all, Scooter Libby is a good person."

Plame lawsuit dismissed in CIA leak case

WASHINGTON - Former CIA operative Valerie Plame lost a lawsuit Thursday that demanded money from Bush administration officials whom she blamed for leaking her agency identity.
Plame, the wife of former Ambassador Joseph Wilson, had accused Vice President Dick Cheney and others of conspiring to disclose her identity in 2003. Plame said that violated her privacy rights and was illegal retribution for her husband's criticism of the administration.
U.S. District Judge John D. Bates dismissed the case on jurisdictional grounds and said he would not express an opinion on the constitutional arguments.
Bates dismissed the case against all defendants: Cheney, White House political adviser Karl Rove, former White House aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby and former Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage.
Plame's lawyers said from the beginning the suit would be a difficult case to make. Public officials normally are immune from such suits filed in connection with their jobs.
Plame's identity was revealed in a syndicated newspaper column in 2003, shortly after Wilson began criticizing the administration's march to war in Iraq.
Armitage and Rove were the sources for that article, which touched off a lengthy leak investigation. Nobody was charged with leaking but Libby was convicted of lying and obstruction the investigation. Bush commuted Libby's 2 1/2-year prison term before the former aide served any time.
"This just dragged on the character assassination that had gone on for years," said Alex Bourelly, one of Libby's lawyers. "To have the case dismissed is a big relief."
Plame and Wilson pledged to appeal.
"This case is not just about what top government officials did to Valerie and me." Wilson said in a statement. "We brought this suit because we strongly believe that politicizing intelligence ultimately serves only to undermine the security of our nation."
Though Bates said the case raised "important questions relating to the propriety of actions undertaken by our highest government officials," he said there was no legal basis for the suit.
Lawyers have said courts traditionally are reluctant to wade into these types of cases, particularly when Congress has established other resolutions.
In this case, Bates said, Congress passed the Privacy Act to cover many of Plame's claims. Courts have held that the Privacy Act cannot be used to hold government officials personally liable for damages in court.
Bates also sided with administration officials who said they were acting within their job duties. Plame had argued that what they did was illegal and outside the scope of their government jobs.
"The alleged means by which defendants chose to rebut Mr. Wilson's comments and attack his credibility may have been highly unsavory," Bates wrote.
"But there can be no serious dispute that the act of rebutting public criticism, such as that levied by Mr. Wilson against the Bush administration's handling of prewar foreign intelligence, by speaking with members of the press is within the scope of defendants' duties as high-level Executive Branch officials," Bates said.
Rove's lawyer, Robert Luskin, said Rove was pleased to have the case behind him.
"The risk of being liable for personal damages is not something anybody takes lightly," Luskin said.

CIA Dissenters Aided Secret Prisons Report
BRUSSELS (Reuters) - Dissident U.S. intelligence officers angry at former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld helped a European probe uncover details of secret CIA prisons in Europe, the top investigator said on Tuesday.
Swiss Senator Dick Marty, author of a Council of Europe report on the jails, said senior CIA officials disapproved of Rumsfeld's methods in hunting down terrorist suspects, and had agreed to talk to him on condition of anonymity.
"There were huge conflicts between the CIA and Rumsfeld. Many leading figures in the CIA did not accept these methods at all," Marty told European Parliament committees, defending his work against complaints it was based on unnamed sources.
The report issued last month said the Central Intelligence Agency ran secret jails in Poland and Romania, with the complicity of those governments, and transported terrorist suspects across Europe in secret flights.
Poland and Romania have repeatedly denied hosting CIA prisons on their soil.
"People in the CIA felt these things were not consonant with the sort of intelligence work they normally do," Marty said.
He said he had based his findings largely on conversations with "high officials of the CIA (and) highly placed European office-holders, who for different reasons, often honorable reasons, were ready to explain what had happened."
Since he had no power to summon witnesses, subpoena documents or search buildings, he was forced to rely on such evidence, Marty said.

"The Americans themselves admitted there were secret prisons, that they abducted people from the streets, that people were handed over to countries like Syria, Yemen, Egypt where they were tortured," he said.
U.S. President George W. Bush acknowledged last year that the CIA had held top al Qaeda suspects in secret overseas detention centers but did not say in which countries.
"The president of United States made a very important statement..., I think we can all expect ... in the near future further admissions," said Marty.
He also said he would not remove name of former Polish and Romanian government officials from the report, although they threatened on Tuesday to take legal action against the senator.

The report said former Polish national security adviser Marek Siwiec and former Romanian Defense Minister Ioan Pascu knew their countries had hosted secret CIA detention centers.
"I have no reason to withdraw his name. I would certainly not be prepared to apologies. He knew exactly what was happening as did his president," Marty told a news conference, referring to Siwiec and former Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski.
"I am not shaking in my shoes," he said of the libel suit that Siwiec vowed to launch in a Polish court unless Marty removed his name from the report within seven days.
Pascu challenged Marty in the hearing to substantiate his allegations or withdraw them, but the Swiss legislator did not respond directly.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all Men and Women were created equal, that they are naturally endowed with certain unalienable rights, rights which have been deliberately and repeatedly ignored, eroded, even destroyed. To re-secure these rights that our forefathers toiled so hard to create and support, we again state that governments are created for the people and solely by the consent of the people so governed. Whenever, such as now, a form of government has become destructive to these ends, it is OUR RIGHT as citizens, to alter and/or abolish it, and to institute a new government, laying its foundation on the original ideals and ideas from whence this country was first imagined, then created through sweat, education, imagination, experience, tears, and toil. Likewise, it becomes our duty as citizens to strive to improve upon that foundation, eradicating the biases based on differences of sex, culture, religion, skin color, nationality, and other individual and groups traits that make individuals who and what they are.
As our forefathers warned 231 years ago, Prudence continues to dictate that a government long established should not be changed for light or transient reasons. However, the transgressions of the current administration against his own people and that against people of other countries are so serious and numerous in nature, that it becomes imprudent not to act immediately. We approach a form of absolute despotism of the kind suffered by our forefathers when they began their own revolution for reasons not dissimilar to ours.
To prove our case, the facts below are without question:
HE has refused his assent to law, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.
HE has obstructed the administration of justice, by politicizing the method and manner in which justice is sought across the states and in the federal courts.
HE has made US Attorneys dependent on his will alone for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries.
HE has spied on citizens domestically and abroad without warrants or justification.
HE has repeatedly lied and misled his people into unnecessary, unjustified, and deadly wars, invasions and eventual occupations, causing untold death and destruction for all concerned.
HE has attacked the very protections of the Constitution, the one document that he took an oath to uphold; and by passage of his Patriot Act, and his countless signing statements, he has destroyed the very protections to which each of us were and are entitled.
HE has erected a new office, misnamed the Department of Homeland Security, which does nothing to increase security, but instead impedes commerce, trade, communication, travel, and privacy to a degree never imagined by our forefathers.
HE has deprived us the benefits of a trial by jury.
HE has held, without charges, many individuals who have no benefit of counsel, courts, or juries.
HE has cut off communication and trade with countries who have offered to aid us in a time of need, after the attacks of September 11, 2001.
HE has arrested, harassed and threatened groups of civilians who gather to protest the excesses of government.
HE has precluded and interfered with free speech of individuals and their right to meet safely.
HE has created a mercenary army, uncontrolled by the democratic process, to fight in actions both domestic and foreign.
HE has ignored long-standing treaties and pacts among other nations, particularly with respect to torture and basic human rights.
HE has ignored the wisdom, experience and knowledge of scientists, replacing them with self-serving political and religious persons, intent on destroying the very knowledge base that serves mankind.
HE has caused the kidnapping and extra-ordinary rendition, followed by their transportation of individuals beyond seas to be held without counsel, trial or juries.
HE has permitted the plundering of our cities, the ravaging of our coasts, and the damage of homes and businesses without properly addressing the damage to individual lives, dignity and health.
HE has imposed secrecy on most actions of goverment, in the name of national security, while precluding citizens from learning of repeated acts of wrongdoing, fraud, and crime.
HE has permitted political donors and supporters to make vast sums of profit from government funds, without requiring accountability, performance or successful endeavors in return.
HE has used religion and faith based initiatives as an attack on the very structure of government, rewarding only certain beliefs, and punishing all others.
HE has destroyed foreign ties with allies and friends, creating distrust and fear, instead of cooperation and friendship.
HE has permitted the destruction of our ecology, causing suffering and worse among us and guaranteeing that our children and our children's children will be forced to pay a dear price.
Our pleas and requests are ignored, our attempts to gain redress are attacked as unpatriotic, our cries are treated as an act of support of terror. A president whose character is marked by these and many other acts which define a tyrant, is unfit to be a ruler of a free people.
WE, therefore, citizens of these United States, and citizens of the world, finding our appeals to our elected representatives to be ignored, do in our name, and in the name of all other true patriots and citizens of this country, solemnly declare that George Walker Bush is unfit to be president; that his vice president is likewise unfit for office, and that both of them are most likely guilty of a multitude of war crimes, crimes against the Constitution, and crimes against humanity. President Bush yesterday rejected entreaties by his Republican allies that he compromise with Democrats on legislation to renew a popular program that provides health coverage to poor children, saying that expanding the program would enlarge the role of the federal government at the expense of private insurance.
The president said he objects on philosophical grounds to a bipartisan Senate proposal to boost the State Children's Health Insurance Program by $35 billion over five years. Bush has proposed $5 billion in increased funding and has threatened to veto the Senate compromise and a more costly expansion being contemplated in the House.
"I support the initial intent of the program," Bush said in an interview with The Washington Post after a factory tour and a discussion on health care with small-business owners in Landover. "My concern is that when you expand eligibility . . . you're really beginning to open up an avenue for people to switch from private insurance to the government."
The 10-year-old program, which is set to expire on Sept. 30, costs the federal government $5 billion a year and helps provide health coverage to 6.6 million low-income children whose families do not qualify for Medicaid but cannot afford private insurance on their own.
About 3.3 million additional children would be covered under the proposal developed by Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) and Republican Sens. Charles E. Grassley (Iowa) and Orrin G. Hatch (Utah), among others. It would provide the program $60 billion over five years, compared with $30 billion under Bush's proposal. And it would rely on a 61-cent increase in the federal excise tax on cigarettes, to $1 a pack, which Bush opposes.
Grassley and Hatch, in a joint statement this week, implored the president to rescind his veto threat. They warned that Democrats might seek an expansion of $50 billion or more if there is no compromise.
They also said that Bush should drop efforts to link the program's renewal to his six-month-old proposal to replace the long-standing tax break for employer-based health insurance with a new tax deduction that would help people pay for insurance, regardless of whether they get it through their jobs or purchase it on their own.
"Tax legislation to expand health insurance coverage is badly needed, but there's no Democratic support for it in the SCHIP debate," said Grassley, the ranking Republican on the finance panel. "In the meantime, our SCHIP initiative in the Finance Committee takes care of a program that's about to expire in a way that's more responsible than current law and $15 billion less than the budget resolution calls for."
But Bush said he was not persuaded.
"I'm not going to surrender a good and important idea before the debate really gets started," Bush said. "And I think it's going to be very important for our allies on Capitol Hill to hear a strong, clear message from me that expansion of government in lieu of making the necessary changes to encourage a consumer-based system is not acceptable."
The Senate committee is scheduled to consider the compromise legislation today, and the House is expected to try to pass its own version before the congressional recess in August.
Rep. Rahm Emanuel (Ill.), the House Democratic Caucus chairman, said he is "bewildered" that Bush is fighting the expanded funding for a program supported by Republicans and Democrats alike. "This is the chance for him to finally be a uniter and not a divider," Emanuel said. "You have consensus across party and ideology, and a unity on the most important domestic issue, health care -- except for one person."
A recent analysis by the Congressional Budget Office concluded that the program would require about $14 billion in new money over five years -- on top of the current $5 billion in annual funding -- merely to keep covering the same number of children, in part because of rising health-care costs. Secretary of Health and Human Services Mike Leavitt, accompanying Bush yesterday, said: "We disagree with that number."
In the 15-minute interview, Bush also rejected the charges by former surgeon general Richard H. Carmona that the administration's political appointees routinely rewrote his speeches, blocked public health reports for political reasons and screened his travel.
"I can't speak to some of the complaints the surgeon general made," Bush said. ". . . He worked energetically in his job. And, obviously, at some point in time, he became very disgruntled and spoke out about it. But ours is an administration that attracts very smart, capable people. I'm very interested in their points of view, and I expect people to speak out. I also have my own points of view and feel very strongly about a lot of issues."
Bush said he is opposed to a bipartisan legislation that would allow the Food and Drug Administration to regulate the manufacturing, marketing and sale of tobacco products, which could lead to stronger warning labels and limits on nicotine and other ingredients.
"We've always said that nicotine is not a drug to be regulated under FDA," Bush said.
Leavitt added that one danger is that the FDA could be seen as giving its stamp of approval to a product "that will never be safe."

Listening to the President, you just have to ask: What is so damn holy about insurance companies? Should their profits always take precedence over children's health needs? Or maybe it's just that the President is concerned about the cost to government? But what's an extra $35 billion over five years for children's health when compared to the $8.4 billion a month the Iraq war now costs the United States? Indeed, the $5 billion SCHIP currently receives annually in federal funds equals only about three weeks of the war's costs.
But perhaps the President is also concerned about the bill's proposed excise tax on cigarettes? Actually, considering that next year's military budget is $499 billion (this doesn't even include the Iraq and Afghanistan war budgets), taxing consumers who smoke hardly seems necessary. Even less necessary when you consider the potential resource in reversing the decline in corporate taxes, from 33 per cent of collected federal taxes in the 1950s to less than 8 percent today. But you get the feeling here it isn't the consumers the President is concerned about. After all, we do know former Surgeon General Richard Carmona recently told Congress the Bush White House pressured him to not give the tobacco companies a hard time by testifying about the dangers of secondhand smoke.
Irony seems to bleed from everything this President espouses that has anything to do with principles. Bush cautions the public about the dangers of government health care, while recovering from his own first-rate, government-paid colonoscopy. Bush sings hymns to the power of free-market solutions, but does nothing while market forces create a nationwide crisis of affordable health care. If unemployment reached 20 percent, which is the percentage of children in Texas without health coverage, it would be called a Great Depression. But we live in times when dynastic corporate families run the country based on the implicit notion that in this life there are winners and there are losers.

If elected president, you and your family will be entitled to free government health care, courtesy of the fine doctors at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. But nearly 50 million of your constituents will go without any medical care at all -- and 18,000 of them will die during your first year in office simply because they lack health insurance. As the head of the government, how can you take advantage of its health care services, but deny it to so many citizens?
I am calling on each presidential candidate to pledge to refuse their free government health care until every person in this country also has it. I want every candidate who said they'd work for the minimum wage as president to work uninsured, too, until health care is universal. And I want the other candidates to join them. (Yes, I'm looking at you, too, Republicans. I know you can afford to do it.)
