More Gore good news

If you have been tuned into the Democracy for America (DFA) Pulse Poll that's been going on, they closed that poll last evening. The winner (for whatever an on-line poll of this sort means) was Dennis Kucinich, who apparently really cranked up his supporters on the web to vote in the DFA poll. However, what we can all take heart in was that in second place was Al Gore - and you had to take extra steps to write his name in on the poll. He had been leading up until about 4 or 5 days ago when it was obvious that the Kucinich people on the web got the word around to vote. But, the Gore people were doing the same thing, so I guess we can't faulth them too much.

However, good news for us New Yorkers - Gore was the leader in New York votes. He beat Kucinich by a couple of points. The "media" front-runners (Edwards, Obama, Clinton) trailed and Clinton was way back (< 5%) with the DFA crowd. Not too surprising, I guess.

Now, we've got to show all New York that Gore can get on the ballot and can win the state for real. I am once again putting out an appeal for help this Saturday at the Public Market (9am in front of Java Joe's to meet and we'll spread out from there). It is critical that we keep up the momentum we got started last week. And, for those of you who might not be able to do the direct person-to-person appeal, we may have a chance to do some phoning of people (or emailing them) in the near future to try to get more folks actively involved in this effort - or at least signing a petition.

THIS IS NOT GOOD NEWS

No rally for Gore

Iowans who hope Al Gore will run for president have been forced to cancel a planned concert in his honor.
The "Run Al Run" event, scheduled for Sunday in Des Moines, was called off because organizers feared they wouldn't sell enough tickets, reporter Christina Bellantoni writes in her "On the Democrats" blog at www.washingtontimes.com.
Peter Ryder of Cedar Rapids said there are two reasons the rally and concert won't go on as planned, despite folk singer Paul Kaplan writing a "Run Al Run" song in the Democrat's honor.
The idea was to "send a message to Al Gore there is a tremendous surge of feeling about you running, but after he won the Nobel Peace Prize, he really got that message pretty loud and clear," Mr. Ryder said.
"We felt it would be difficult to sell the number of tickets to make the whole thing financially viable," said Mr. Ryder, who still plans to attend his caucus on behalf of Mr. Gore, and is urging others in Iowa do to the same Jan. 3.
If Mr. Gore does not reach the 15 percent threshold in the caucus, Mr. Ryder hasn't decided on a second choice, though he has ruled one candidate out: "Not Hillary. I am leaning toward Edwards but that can change."

Fantastic link!

Thanks Gaiwinds. I posted petition info over there. A lot of NYC DFA people read the Blog for America.

Gail, are you petitioning?

HI FROM NY

Yes I am but I live in a not so populated area so standing on a street corner with the petition won't work. It may be meager but the support is out there. Are you in touch with the upstate groups? Keep up the good work!
