Methane Gas

In keeping with world hunger, inflation rates, and the use of natural resources for fuel.
This may seem a bit out of the ordinary, but I am curious if science could make this work, which with given technology it most assured is able to.
Presentation: a dream that I conceived in June 2002.
In my dream, it was futuristic insight that one day we would all be saving and cataloguing our feces for natural resource purposes. This would run methane gas and lessen the need for using good natural resources ie. corn/wheat/rice crops, since they have already been ingested for personal energy. This would work quite well with cow/bison stool as well. I would be pleased to hear any comments on this post, as I feel that this would be great for civilization and the environment. Highest Regards,
