DRAFTING GORE-A NEW STRATEGY ASAP
Hi Everyone,
In light of seeing Al's interview last night on Charlie Rose, and after having talked with some other folks and done some further thinking I would like to propose the following:
IN ADDITION TO OUR ALREADY STRONG EFFORTS TO DRAFT GORE WE NEED TO ADD THE FOLLOWING ASAP TO OUR PHASE 2 OF DRAFTING HIM:
We cannot focus exclusively on immediate techniques to persuade Al to run. Primarily the book tour. While I think this is an excellent approach and very important, I also think we all need to be starting to move on the option of a favorite son delegate. Last night I attempted to bring this up after we had spent a good 45 minutes on the book tour stuff and campaign materials. Some of you, like Roy Gayhart were very responsive, but some people seemed out and out annoyed, saying they wanted to hear more about CA. While hearing about CA is important and heartwarming, there is more we need to be discussing!
Here is a link to a Daily Kos journal by John Pitkin of Boston, it talks in depth about the favorite son option-we should all be versed in this as organizors and members of this movement:

I just got through watching Gore on Charlie Rose and here is what I think he is saying loud and clear: As long as we keep turning to him or any one leader for the problem or solution we continue to be lost as a people, our democracy continues to erode, and therefore (wisely) he will not participate in that. That him running for president and being part of such spin would be more of the same. He is looking for something different and he will know it when he sees it and he has not seen it. What he needs to see is that we the people are doing it, and I believe getting him on the some ballots or having a favorite son delegate would be indicative of what he is looking for, far more so than all the Al Gore 2008 stickers in the world. What happened in 2000 was a failure of the people, a failure of our system, not Gore campaigning poorly. He needs to see people are actively taking part in their democracy, and not just begging him to rescue us.

Everyone please read the book
He refers to many "good people trapped in a bad system." His basic premise is that is each and everyone's responsibility that we got to this place, and it's everyone's responsibility to get us out. Taylor Marsh wrote a good piece, which is at , http://www.taylormarsh.com/archives_view.php?id=25634 - complete with links to the audio of a blogcall that Gore made to bloggers. In the blog call, Al told them: I put my heart and soul into this book. ... What this book is is an effort to really lay out, not only a diagnosis but also a prescription. Those of you on this call are part of the group in America that I do see as on the cutting edge of the change I hope is coming on strong."
In the Time article where he was quoted as saying, "I haven't ruled it out," he also said, "It would take a lot to disabuse me of the notion that my highest and best use is to keep building that consensus.
"What it would take, specifically?
"I can't say because I'm not looking for it. But I guess I would know it if I saw it."
I think Kerry is on to something. I also think that we should all be thinking outside the box. When the people are ready, the candidate will appear.
