Biden on Fire!

Man, this is why Joe Biden is an outstanding choice for VP. From msnbc coverage of a speech today in Langhorne, PA:

Phelps vs. McCain

Michael Phelps is enjoying his newfound fame (some would say, "celebrity") after winning 8 gold medals in Beijing. He was in NYC yesterday for a promotional appearance on behalf of Visa. He was grilled by the New York press, one of whom asked, "how many sponsorship deals do you have, Mike?"

Now Phelps is not a polished speaker, not a professional politician used to being put on the spot. But he thought for a moment, went through at least part of the list out loud and then pronounced confidently, "seven."

Gore to speak at convention -- to accept VP?

Al Gore is now scheduled to speak on the last night of the Democratic convention. Could it be to accept the nomination to run for VP? I don't have a link, but you can find it on CNN.com and elsewhere. Gore would be an excellent balance to Obama's perceived need for experience.

McCain's Response to Georgia War Shows His Dangerous Hawk Colors

McCain's hawkish response to the situation in Georgia shows (in the words of Josh Marshall) how "dangerous and unstable" he is.

My Democratic Party Commercial

I spoke to a farrier the other day -- you know, a guy who shoes horses. I asked him how business was going and he told me the price of fuel was cutting into his profits as he has to travel from farm to farm. Meanwhile, horse owners try to go longer between shoeings. But, the farrier said, he also does some polo ponies and "those people never have to cut back."

GENERAL Clark v. POW McCain

Finally, someone with some credibility has said it: being shot down doesn't qualify you to be Commander-in-Chief.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/06/29/clark.mccain/?iref=mpstoryview

General Clark could be a real asset to this campaign. His experience as a NATO Commander leading the military action against Serbia, in which NO American soldiers died in combat, clearly trumps McCain's credentials of poor pilot and (possibly privileged) POW.

George Carlin

George Carlin: "The Planet is Fine."

It's kind of an alternative "Inconvenient Truth." You'll be misled if you take Carlin's message literally, but if you consider the second part of it -- "it's the people that are f**ked" -- you'll get his real point.

Gore's Role in an Obama Administration?

Some people have suggested that Al Gore would be a good choice for Barack Obama's running-mate. Personally I have not heard a good argument in favor of Al Gore as Obama's VP. I honestly don't think it will help the ticket. Some voters are put off by Gore. I don't think it would even help to win over HRC supporters, most of whom will come around in due time anyway.

I think it would help Obama more to hint that he's going to give Gore a large role other than VP, without getting specific, if possible.

I would like to see Al Gore in one of these roles:
- Secretary of the Interior

Al Gore Endorses Obama

"A few hours from now I will step on stage in Detroit, Michigan to announce my support for Senator Barack Obama. From now through Election Day, I intend to do whatever I can to make sure he is elected President of the United States."
