San Diegans for Gore Active at Al Gore’s May 21 Appearance at UCSD

The San Diegans for Gore in 2008 group was very active at Al Gore's May 21 appearance at the University of California, San Diego. Our volunteers gathered hundreds of petition signatures as well as attracting significant local TV news coverage of our grassroots campaign.

Gore presented to a receptive and vocally appreciative crowd of 5000 his “An Inconvenient Truth” multi-media slide show presentation – updated with new findings he had learned that very afternoon during his briefings at Scripps Institution of Oceanography’s Birch Aquarium. During the presentation, Gore repeatedly featured the pivotal role that has been played by UCSD and Scripps scientists and researchers, beginning with Gore's college professor and co-founder of UCSD, Roger Revelle over the last five decades in the groundbreaking science that has identified the threat of a global warming climate crisis caused by the accelerating accumulation of human-produced greenhouse gases in the Earth’s atmosphere,

We were struck by Gore’s powerful conclusion that the ethical, moral, and political dimension that has up to now inexcusably ignored and exacerbated the problems he so eloquently illustrated, must be redirected to fully acknowledge the problem, adopt appropriate policies, and mobilize the inhabitants of the Earth to change their behavior, rescue their planet, and save themselves from the looming global catastrophe.
