vegetarians 1st 2 warn of climate disaster 1974

The first time the US Government was warned of climate disaster, was
in testimony from vegetarians at Senate Select-Committee on Nutrition & Human Needs: June 1974.1) ( Senators McGovern, Dole, Kennedy, Percy, Humphrey). This was done in the public comments for Panel Nutrition & Intern’l Situ and Nutrition & Health.
( B.Pinkus, N.Shriver, B.Quealy, CV. Salamone, T.Jackrell)

They weren’t worried about CO2 buildup, because plants and trees thrive on absorbing CO2. They presented evidence that because of deforestation, clearing land for feed crops and grazing forced overpopulations of cattle, chickens and pigs primarily, we have lost the photosynthetic carrying capacity of the earth, destroying not only the vegetation necessary to absorb CO2, but capacity to retain moisture.
One can easily see that climate normalization involves radical reduction in the consumption of meat and animal products, just as it was clear 33 years ago.
However, as Bob Dole eloquently told me “son, there ain’t many vegetarians in my district, and I get Elected by the people in my district. Best of luck to you”.

Clearly the government was going to wait for climate disaster!
Then in the early 80.s I presented evidence to the UN Climate Council that global warming would lead to global cooling, drought and floods, based on the fact warm air carries more water. Larger systems will drop their loads early and down winders get less thanks to land clearing and by, commercial, chemical feed crop agriculture and grazing.

Now 33 yrs later, and no where in your documentary do you state clearly that the #! cause of losing land, has been to feed crop agriculture, and the inferior protein industry control over both the USDA and the Forest Service grazing lease program. Nearly 50% of the public lands leased to cattle are overgrazed (Jack Sheppard “Forest Killers“).
Even when their steady pollution of groundwater leads to publicized deaths, the industry manages to have a vegetable farm take the blame, as evidenced from recent e-coli outbreak in Salinas Valley.

Al Gore is perhaps now the worst example of an unwillingness to give up meat,
even if it means “The End“(Larry Ephrom).(other good books for you,“Topsoil and Civilization“(?), “Losing Ground” (Eric Eckholm)& “Survival of Mankind” (Bruno Shubert, Hygienic Society)

1) These were the hearings that abolished the Basic 4 Food fallacy as an invention of the meat & dairy industries, & leading cause of both heart disease and cancer in america.

No Need For Extremes

There is no need for an "ALL OR NOTHING" approach to going veg!!
I've been a veggie for 20 years now, but I've never pushed it on anyone else. It is a better approach to simply suggest that those who consume meat reduce their intake a bit.

There is not a physical need for animal protein at every meal. The meat industry has certainly led everyone in this country to believe that "It's not a meal without meat" That is far from the truth. I've heard too many times to count - "If you don't eat meat, then what do you eat?" To that I reply - "Everything else!"

I would never presume to tell others how to live, but for those who would like to help the earth sustain itself, and feel better physically, occasionally eating lower on the food chain is a good way to help!!

Well, I don't eat beef simply because I don't like it

I eat pork, chicken, fish, turkey. Mostly chicken, about once a week and pork about twice a month.
Only on weekends. Because on weekdays I don't eat at all. Nada. Except eggs.
Which include animal protein. And as I counted I've already eaten 7,145 eggs in my life.
Holy shit! That sounds like a massive genocide.

There is not a physical need for animal protein at every meal.

Of course not. That would be rather boring, anyway.

I don't want to give up meat. So I am the worst example

Your proposed "solution" is worthless. Have a better one?

Limits to our goodwill towards Vegetarians:

Oh JEEEEEZE! It took us millions of years of evolution to get to a point where we didn't need to constantly browse, scavenge, and search for our daily diet of vegan food. Our carniverous genes freed us from a life of grazing. Adding the concentrated high-protein content of meat, fish, eggs, and etc. to our diet gave us time and energy for other activities such as agriculture and tool making.

Do we really want a President who has to obsess day and night about how to subsist on twigs, berries, and wild hickory nuts?

Please keep your hands off our Presidents' dining perogatives. While you're at it, keep your hands off our dietary rights too!

BTW, "The Limits to Growth", (The headline-making report on the imminent global disaster (still) facing humanity) was published in 1972.

On hearing of the China Project, wherein I'm told it's alleged cancers occur tenfold in dairy eaters than in vegans, I had to pause. It's said the Dairy Council quashed this study. Add to that the fact that a vast amount more people can be fed, as I was first told in 4th grade (I determined then to become vegetarian, but it's yet to happen), on an acre of land growing crops rather than beef or other animals for consumption, I really got to think - because, I've just learned how much suffering is involved when mother animals are parted from their young in order to produce milk for us, and now I feel guilty. Can I stop eating cheese, I wonder? I don't know. I'll try, though.

I wondered if it were so, that it was 1972 the Government was first warned of climate crisis in the works. I see it is. Here is a good review of The Limits of Growth:

Yes, yes Limits of Growth, other studies, research by
Pimenthal, Lester Brown,Eckholm, Bruno Shuburt,Frances Lappe, and others lent itself to the
climate warnings of veg groups at 'Select-Sen Committee on Nutrition & Human Needs' 6/74 .
Also presented: Amer. Chemical Society, Wash DC- Diet and Cancer Studies of '73,
linking increased animal protein consumption to increase stomach, colon and gastrointestinal
cancers, visa-AMMONIA, byproduct of decomposure. When it rots before your stomach can digest it.
So while health will someday be the kick for vegetarians, for now its primary import,
is to restore lands to multicanopy vegetation and young forests, currently
landscraped like an absentee landlord's planter box, by livestock, & feed farms worldwide.
Can people be more concerned about the planets' health than they are about their own health?
CERTAINLY.

We cannot expect it as part of a presidential campaign...but in a campaign to reverse global warming ABSOLUTELY. Whether the prez is a veg or not, it takes the resolve of a largely carnivore gov. to enable vegetarian education for children to WIDEN SELECTION,in their making health choices.
