Petition To Stop Climate Alarmism Trumps Gore’s $300 Million Effort In Just 8 Days
PRESS RELEASE:
Chesapeake, VA—Over a span of just eight days and with minimal funding, a grassroots petition to Stop Climate Alarmism and the coming $1.2 trillion Carbon Tax rallied more signers than Al Gore’s highly-touted $300 million ad blitz.
“Despite the media’s spin and Al Gore’s rants, many Americans don’t believe the Climate Alarmist agenda and strongly oppose the coming $1.2 trillion Carbon Tax,” says Steve Elliott, President of Grassfire.org. “I think it is significant that, over a span of eight days, our petition rallied more signers than Al Gore’s effort which included expensive ad buys and has been heavily promoted by the media. People are beginning to question the coming $1.2 trillion Carbon Tax.”
Gore’s “Alliance for Climate Protection” launched its $300 million blitz on March 31, and claims “over 1 million” signers to its petition. It has added less than 100,000 since Grassfire launched its petition. Elliott says many citizens are becoming skeptical of a new government taxing scheme to solve a debatable crisis, especially in the current economic climate. “With the mortgage crisis, rising gas prices and a tightening economy, the last thing we need is another massive government bureaucracy that will stifle the economy, take more of our money and control more of our lives.”
The goal of the petition, says Elliott, is to “give citizens who oppose Climate Alarmism and the $1.2 trillion Carbon Tax a voice in the upcoming Congressional debate. We could be on the leading edge of a grassroots counter insurgency against the so-called ‘consensus’ of Climate Alarmism.”
Elliott also notes that Grassfire’s petition ironically is, by Gore’s own standards, the more eco-friendly. “Since I’m certain that the ‘carbon footprint’ of our campaign is much smaller that Gore’s, our campaign is actually better for the environment.”
The Petition States:
By my signature below I hereby join the growing number of scientists and informed citizens deeply concerned by the dire predictions and proposed solutions of Climate Alarmists.
Fears that mankind has created a ‘planetary emergency’ are scientifically unfounded, and as such the doomsday predictions of Climate Alarmists are irresponsible and dangerous. Also, the solutions proposed by Climate Alarmists would have a harmful and possibly devastating impact on our economy, without any detectable climatic impact let alone benefit.
Given that "catastrophic Man-made global warming" is the sole justification, I oppose U.S. participation in the Kyoto treaty or any such successor agreement, mandatory domestic limits on CO2, and any federal or state carbon "tax” or “cap-and-trade” system
-- including the current Lieberman-Warner bill. Finally, any legislation containing mandatory provisions in the name of "climate change" must require demonstration, through cost-benefit or similar analysis, that its provisions would produce quantifiable climate benefit.
It is time to stop promoting dangerous Climate Alarmism and instead engage a free and open debate on environmental issues without the anti-scientific, anti-democratic intimidation tactics that increasingly accompany climate alarmism

Be part of the Draft Gore '08 campaign!

If this guy wants to be afraid of a 1.2 trillion carbon
tax who are we to stop him?
Let him be afraid. Apparently that's all he can do.
His message is be afraid, be very afraid and he is the one preaching against alarmism?
Guess what? I'm not afraid of that 1.2 trillion carbon tax. Try another scare tactic. This one is boring.
You are an idiot. You might
You are an idiot. You might as well stop posting, no one believes you.
The Usual Response
Skeptics of human induced global warming are frequently met with ad hominem attacks as can be seen from Pattie Smiths posting. If the science is truly settled, why aren't skeptical opinions met with the settled science that is supposed to exist? Ad hominem attacks normally suggest that the attackers can't effectively defend their position.
Can anything tell me exactly how anthropogenic global warming is "settled science?"
The usual response to the usual idiots.
Any problem with that?
"Skeptics of human induced global warming are frequently met with ad hominem attacks as can be seen from Pattie Smiths posting."
Whining whining whining.
"If the science is truly settled, why aren't skeptical opinions met with the settled science that is supposed to exist? "
You don't even know "the science" hence you cannot possibly know whether it is "settled" or not.
Nevertheless this "science is settled" soundbite came from your circle not from Gore. These are your words not his.
Only an idiot would use this phrase not someone who understands the complexity of climate science.
Be happy. La Nina still has a cooling effect -- not that anyone denied that here-- so 2008 won't be a particularly warm year. But remember what you said in 1999 and what happened since then.
